Sharps Disposal

Many New Pueblo Medicine patients use syringes and/or lancets (known as 'Sharps') at home as part of their healthcare. The City of Tucson and Pima County allow for safe disposal of these Sharps through your regular trash pick-up. These are their recommendations:

  • Place needles in a puncture proof, plastic container with a screw on lid. Rigid detergent, bleach and fabric softener bottles are great for this purpose. Please do NOT put them in glass bottles or jars!
  • Use a permanent marker to write ‘NON-RECYCLABLE’ on the container
  • Dispose of the container in your trash bin, NOT in your recycling bin

You can help prevent others from being injured and/or possibly contracting Hepatitis B or C or HIV by taking these simple steps. Following these procedures will help protect anyone who might otherwise unknowingly come in contact with used Sharps!
